Roadstar Scirocco and Corrado Meet in Boekel, the Netherlands, May 20-22 2005
Together with 2 other Roccos and their drivers I took my Mk1 Rieger Rocco along to this annual happening over in Boekel in the Netherlands, an event where you will only find Sciroccos and Corrados, just the way it should be.
Although this year there were a few less Sciroccos and Corrados (still somewhere in the region of 150 cars) compared to the previous year - this could have been due to the camping site, the bad weather forecast or even due to the fact that there are simply fewer and fewer Roccos and Rados as time goes by - the atmosphere was once again excellent.
It was great to see some old favourites as well as some new Roccos and Rados and their respective owners again, some of which had made long journeys to get to this event. Roccos and Rados had come from various parts of Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and yes, good old Blighty.
Our little 3-Rocco convoy arrived at the camping site "Boekel's Ven" on Wednesday evening, being delayed, having had to fight our way from the Hook of Holland to Boekel through various roadworks and diversions.
Being the first to arrive still, we were welcomed by the organiser, Dio Linders from the Scirocco and Corrado Club Roadstar, and were given a fantastic spot on the camping grounds: A field with leaf trees and grass (no pine tree sap, no dust!), large enough to accommodate various clubs as well as the German Sciroccoforum, whom we had joined, me being their British outpost (why not log on to:
http://www.sciroccoforum.de). After pretty much everyone had arrived during Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, our field was full (others still had plenty of space to park and camp across other parts of the large camping grounds) and people walked from one BBQ to another and generally had a great time.
The weather, despite some showers during the night, was warm and sunny, and allowed us to stroll across the grounds to look at loads of nice Rados and Roccos, and talk to their proud owners.
During Saturday afternoon there were various games to take part in, e.g. judging the insurance repair costs of an accident Rocco, a rowing competition on the small lake, and several indoor games.
At the Show & Shine yours truly managed to pull off the trophy for best Mk1 Rocco. During the evening the usual surprise took place (which die-hard Roadstar Meet fans by now know what this is

).
Sunday morning simply came too soon, time for saying goodbye and commence the journey back to Blighty.
I do hope to take across even more folks for the Roadstar 2006 event, miss this event at your own peril! The long wait till Roadstar 2006 has started again.
