One more thing, automatic cars may have higher fuel consumption due to the torque converter slack, which amy not appear in the coast-down loss measurement. So in reality, on the road, the losses may be higher.
But :), the Golf automatic 3 has a lock-up in 3rd and 4th gear, so there's no slack.
Not an easy question... :)

Hi Karoly,
As Dirk said before, it's hard to read any details from the picture you posted. But am I right that your dyno runs state the performance in SAE-HP? 'cause SAE horsepower does not include losses by the various add-ons like the generator or a/c. DIN-HP includes all losses. Maybe that's something that needs to be considered while talking 'bout different losses in drivetrain.
Just my 2 cents

Hi Chris,
No, it's a DIN-corrected result. The car went on the dyno from the street, so the alternator or the A/C belt was not removed, I think. :)
US guys used to use SAE-HP, but nowadays they use net HP, which is more or less equal to our DIN HP.
ANd it's not my car. It's a diesel.

Hello
I managed to get the dyno plot in a readable form, plus a newer plot of the same car, with some more power. :)
In fact, the 12.2% drivetrain loss was due to a misunderstanding, and because of the small image, I could not check it. If you take a look at is, you'll see why.
So at the first run, loss was cca. 25% (DIN-corrected), at the second run 17%.
This tendency seems to check up with my theory above (about the non-power dependant loss component).
If you have 'public' AP22 runs, please share them, I promise I'll share mines as soon as I get my AP22. :)
