to fit some DCOE is much difficulter, because of the space behaves.
But it sounds very good, by using K&N or similar air filter.
May be a change to EG (Injection) may be easier.
Much easier ist to change the original 2B5 to a 2B5 from Nothelle.
It fits on the original air intake.
cheers Roland
Yes, the 5 speed was easy to put in, it just takes time to find out all the pieces specific to the 5 speed... And dissasemble all the gearbox to check everything! I made a custom "FD" gearbox ^^
I think that putting the DCOE's is easy, you need the intake manifold, the DCOE's, all the linkage between them, electric fuel pump, fuel pression regulator and that must be it (or at least it's the list i have for the moment...)
The problem i think it is getting them to work right... But it's the ony way to try and put a little more action into the mix and keep the original engine! :)
I'm not a fan of the k-jetronic system, all the guys i know that had problems with the system where going crazy with it, i had some friends that also insist for me to put a 2.0 16v ABF engine in it (golf 3 gti 16v), ok it must be awesome to drive the car with 160hp, but it takes away a bit of the classic side that this car deserves... When they told me that i thinked also of a 1.8 16v KR engine, but without the k-jet and with the Weber's DCOE. it goes up to 120hp and the carburettors gives it that classic vibe... And the carburettors are mounted in the front of the engine and i get to keep my refurbished gearbox...
I have already the Weber replacement carburettor kit with the 32/34 DMTL carburettor and i kept the original intake box ;)
But i need a little more action (i do not like to go to insane speeds) but i like a car that i can go up in the Highway at a nice speed and it doesn't make a lot of effort to keep the speed... The engine as it is now, it just takes too much effort to drive at 110/120km/h even with the 5 speed! And i can tell you that, because i drove to Porto (Portugal) and came back this summer (4000km in total with the car!), i loved it, awesome trip, but it does really need a bit more horsepower if i want to make some more trips like those. (Germany would be cool (Nurburgring :D) and the UK also)
I accept opinions in this, i do like to keep the original engine, but i don't think that with the Weber's it will make much of a difference...
