Hi All
Do anyone know why it is that on a 16v pl engine, runs a hose from the crankshaft vent to the intakemanifold (around where the idle control valve is) ??
Is it posible for the engine to constantly suck air from the krankshaft vent?
Im thinking of blocking this hose, so the only air will come from the idle control valve..
Anyone know anything about this?
Im building an MS on the engine..

You´ll need to let the crankcase vent out air. Air gets into the crankcase because of ¨imperfections¨ in the piston rings. On compression tiny amounts of air will invariably get past the piston rings into the crankcase, and thus need to be let out again. This happens through the crankcase breather hose (same on 8V engines, BTW).
Some people remove the breather hose and attach an oil-catch, since the air escaping from the crankcase through this breather hose also contains oil mist (as oil ¨lives¨ in the crankcase
). If you do go down this route, don´t forget to plug the hole in the intake manifold
It is probably best to leave it as it is, TBH.

Hi!
I think, you mean the hose for the crankcase ventilation.
You should not block this hose.
But instead, you could install an oil catch tank.
Greetings, Sven.

this is because in germany it is not allowed to let unfilterd gas from the engine into the air. don't block this hose! the gas must be able to leave the engine. you can use a small filter eg from k&n

Hi :)
You are all mistaking.. :(
Im not takling about the breather hose to the airfilter, im talking about the little extra hose that goes from the big breather hose, and up to the intake manifold! It plugs into the manifold just around where the ilde valve is connected..
