Hmm ive been thinking (bad idea ;)) hehe

If i use the crankshaft from a 9A,2E,ABF with a longer stroke, are the PL engine block large enought, or will my pistons hit the cylinderhead?

If not, then why?
Kind regards

A little update, i now found and bought 9A pistons and rods, for 50Euro.. :o )

So now it just need a upbore ;o)

I have heard that a set of KR camshafts, would be good with a 2L conversion, have any of you any comments on that?
Kind regards

Hi Juel,

The use of KR-camshafts or to be more precise, the KR inlet camshaft (as the exhaust camshaft is identical) results in a minor perfomance improvement, thats right. The powerband shifts up slightly in the rev-range, peak power increases, the behavier of the engine is more sportive. If you can get an KR inlet camshaft for a few bucks (don't spend more than around 40€), do it.

Some may add the hint, that you can also convert an exhaust camshaft to an intake camshaft, that whould result in an stronger perfomance peak. But if you ask me, for everyday use, if you want excellent torque even at low rpm while still reving the engine to the max and still keep the max. power below the rev limit, try to catch a pair of ABF camshafts. Their power output is very constant over the rev range, it's ideal for everyday use. Buy both, intake and outtake camshafts, their profile is unique.

PS: if you stick to the PL K-Jetornic Motormanagement, you might want to try ataching the Ignition Controller of the KR (green print on frontside). You loose knock detection, but you get a far more sportive engine behavier. But high octane fuel is a must, you should switch to 98 octane.

Once again you amaze me :o ) in the good way that is :o ))

Ok, so ill try to find some ABF chafts..

But i didnt understand the kr ignition controller part.. , is it just the little igniton box? and do i only have to use high octane if i use that one?

Thanks again.. :o )
Kind regards

Yes, just that little box that has the underpressure hose attached. The PL one has a yellow cap, the KR one a black or green cap. The ingnition map in the KR controller gives a more advanced ignition timing, hence needs higher octane fuel. Thats one of the reasons why the KR needs 98 octane refering to original VW documents. If you do not switch the box, you can stay on 95 octane fuel just like the PL uses. The minimum of higher compression in the 9A block shouldn't trouble.

TADAAA a new question has ermerged ;o)

What intake manifold should i use? a normal pl 40mm or a 50mm from a KR engine? Wouldnt a 50mm be better for the engine to breathe?

Some danish ppl say that i should stick with the 40mm becaurse the 50mm only gives power at high rpm... what do you guys think?
Kind regards
